About the role
Stantec is seeking an Environmental Scientist to lead impactful work across the Gulf region. The position involves providing natural resource assessment, permitting, and compliance services to support various projects and client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Provide natural resource assessment, permitting, and compliance services to support projects and key client relationships.
- Lead teams (with oversight from senior staff) that collect and report on tasks such as wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat characterizations, land use mapping, and vegetation cover classification.
- Cook up agency communications, prepare technical assessments, and guide junior staff through successful execution of project tasks.
- Lead permitting efforts including agency coordination at the local, state, and federal level following NEPA, Endangered Species Act (ESA), and Clean Water Act (CWA) compliance as well as applicable state regulations, with guidance and oversight by senior staff.
- Aid in preparing work plans, assembling project teams, and ensuring compliance with scope and timely completion of tasks.
- Establish and maintain quality assurance plans and safety plans for assigned projects.
- Provide mentorship to early-career staff.
Requirements
- Intermediate level understanding of technical environmental impact analysis methods related to state and federal environmental regulations.
- Demonstrated skill and commitment to QA/QC practices.
- Demonstrated experience or willingness to manage multiple tasks and ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
- Demonstrated ability in collaborative problem-solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.
- Demonstrated leadership in striving to continuously improve technical performance.
- Requires flexibility to travel as needed for project and fieldwork.
Qualifications
- Interdisciplinary background in environmental science, biological resources, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience providing or managing technical services in a professional services setting, preferably in Florida.
- Local, state, and federal compliance and environmental permitting experience required.
- Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or other applicable professional environmental certification (such as Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent) preferred.
Skills
