Environmental Scientist
Responsibilities
- Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), including site inspections, historical research, and database reviews in accordance with ASTM standards.
- Perform Phase II ESAs, including soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling, and coordinate all aspects of field investigations.
- Analyze environmental data, interpret laboratory results, and prepare clear, accurate, and technically sound reports.
- Identify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) and recommend appropriate next steps for site remediation or additional assessment.
- Collaborate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure projects comply with applicable environmental standards and regulations.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining schedules, meeting deadlines, and supporting budget adherence.
- Prepare detailed Phase I and Phase II ESA reports, ensuring consistency with regulatory and ASTM requirements.
- Contribute to environmental monitoring and remediation activities, including soil sampling and environmental consulting tasks as needed.
- Engage in professional networking and relationship building to support ongoing and future environmental projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in environmental consulting or environmental site assessments.
- Hands-on experience conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
- Familiarity with ASTM E1527-21 standards and relevant environmental regulations such as CERCLA and RCRA.
- Strong technical writing skills with demonstrated experience preparing ESA reports.
- Ability to interpret laboratory data and provide practical, actionable recommendations.
- Proficiency in GIS software and Microsoft Office tools.
- Experience with environmental science practices, soil sampling, environmental remediation, and environmental monitoring.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Solid project management skills, including the ability to organize tasks, manage time, and handle multiple projects concurrently.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification or willingness to obtain this certification.
- Experience in Phase I and Phase II ESA report writing with a focus on clarity and regulatory compliance.
- Interest in career progression into a Project Manager role and taking on greater responsibility over time.
- Motivation to learn directly from highly experienced environmental professionals and apply that knowledge to complex projects.
Work Environment
The work environment offers a balanced mix of field and office-based work, with approximately 1–2 days per week spent on site conducting sampling and field investigations. The remaining days can be performed remotely, providing a very flexible and supportive work setting. The role typically involves a roughly 50/50 split between field activities and office tasks, with a strong emphasis on technical writing and report preparation. You will collaborate closely with a consultant who primarily works remotely and with senior environmental professionals who bring decades of industry experience.
