Role Context

This role sits within a refinery and chemical complex environment and supports a construction-related project. The position works alongside the Project Team, the project SHE Manager, site construction leadership, and EPC contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the single point of contact for environmental and regulatory matters across the project.
  • Cook up and oversee environmental and regulatory programs, including engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning aspects.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of key environmental and regulatory deliverables, including the project's ESHIA, Environmental Management Plan, and Regulatory Compliance Plan.
  • Obtain required permits, licenses, and approvals in a timely manner and track overall compliance status.
  • Work with project design and execution teams to ensure environmental, socioeconomic, and health requirements are integrated into project plans and designs.
  • Review contractor environmental and regulatory plans and deliverables for completeness and acceptability.
  • Provide guidance to project and contractor teams on regulatory compliance obligations and environmental and regulatory performance.
  • Develop and implement monitoring procedures for environmental management plan delivery and wider environmental and regulatory performance.
  • Conduct routine site inspections and assessments covering environmental, socioeconomic, and health matters.
  • Investigate, record, and report compliance initiatives and non-compliance situations.
  • Prepare internal stewardship reporting and external reports required for regulatory or lender-related requests.
  • Cook up technical specialists and contribute to training and awareness sessions related to environmental and regulatory performance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: University degree in Natural or Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Social Sciences, Engineering, or another technical field related to environmental and regulatory management.
  • Essential: Experience in the environmental, socioeconomic, or health field, preferably within a construction or extractive industry project.
  • Essential: Excellent English speaking and writing skills.
  • Essential: Good interpersonal skills, supervisory or organizational ability, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of external project financing.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of country-specific regulations.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with predominant in-country language(s).
