About the role
AECOM is actively seeking an experienced Environmental Planner II (Transportation focused) to join our Arizona Environmental Planning team. This is a hybrid role based in our Phoenix, AZ office, working closely with our Environmental and Transportation Planning teams.
Responsibilities
- Assists clients and project managers in the collaborative development and review of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, including Categorical Exclusions (CE), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS).
- Supports the preparation of technical reports on a variety of topics, such as biological resources, hazardous materials, land use, and socioeconomics.
- Collects various technical and statistical data, conducts analysis based on the data, and prepares reports and maps on topics such as census information, land use, and the natural environment.
- Aids in the development of environmental permit application packages, technical reports, and mitigation and monitoring plans, ensuring all documents accurately interpret and apply applicable government codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Performs essential task management duties to keep projects on track, including facilitating recurring status meetings, managing milestone check-ins, and handling day-to-day interfacing with internal teams and sub-consultants.
- Supports field efforts by performing field inspections to gather data relevant to the project development, environmental review process, and permitting efforts.
- Supports public involvement efforts by developing public-facing documents and reports and attending public meetings.
- Assists project managers with the development of meeting materials, including presentation boards, handouts, agendas, and PowerPoint presentations; supports public meetings by compiling results and maintaining project records.
- Attends occasional evening or weekend meetings and travels to project sites to support field data collection or stakeholder engagement based on project needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, biology, ecology, natural resources management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in environmental planning or transportation planning with state and local transportation agencies, and their environmental policies and practices.
- Valid Driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites and safely operate a vehicle.
- Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
