About the role

Arcadis is seeking an entry-level Environmental Planner to join our Enviro Socio Permitting team in primarily serving Southern California. The successful candidate will conduct desktop reviews and support field data collection related to project scoping and planning efforts. This role will primarily support Arcadis' planning and permitting team working with linear infrastructure clients in California.

Responsibilities

  • Apply your technical knowledge to work with client teams to provide high-quality deliverables to support planning and permitting for major utility clients.
  • Interact with other junior level planners and biologists/ecologists, as well as senior technical experts and project managers contributing as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team.
  • Support and coordinate a regionally-focused multi-disciplinary team of scientists (i.e., biologists, cultural resources specialists, etc.), to develop project implementation and permitting strategies to achieve specifically defined project goals and objectives in conjunction with land rights specialists, and customer relations and government relations professionals.
  • Use your strong technical writing, attention to detail, time management and communications skills to draft project documents and support the development of permitting reviews and other documents under the direction of mid and senior level team members.
  • Maintain electronic file systems and record keeping.
  • Conduct field reviews and site visits with other technical specialists, engineers, and construction personnel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, or related field.
  • One year of experience in the environmental field or advanced degree in environmental science or similar.
  • Knowledge of California and federal permit requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in the environmental consulting industry.
  • Previous experience in the planning, permitting, and/or supporting the construction, reconstruction or maintenance of electric or gas transmission facilities, or other similar type of infrastructures (i.e., water, sewer, oil and gas, etc.).
  • Experience with evaluating project compliance with state and federal laws and environmental and regulatory processes - federal, state and local regulators such as PUC, PSC, FERC, BLM, USFS, USFWS, USACE, as well as experience with CEQA and NEPA.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports/permit applications.
  • Experience with linear construction projects (e.g., utility projects, pipeline projects, etc.).
