Your Specific Responsibilities
- Communicate with, motivate, train, and evaluate employees.
- Hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees.
- Develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.
- Conduct sanitary and safety inspections for the prevention of environmental related illness and injury in body piercing, tattoo, and biomedical waste facilities.
- Licensure of body piercing and tattoo facilities including inspections and complaint investigations.
- Lead inspections for biomedical waste, body art, and tanning programs.
- Conduct site inspections of regulated facilities to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Inspect body piercing facilities for compliance with 64E19 of the Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.).
- Inspect hospitals, physicians’ offices, laboratories, nursing homes, and other biomedical waste generating facilities for compliance with 64E16 of the F.A.C.
- Complete inspection forms accurately, applying and interpreting 64E16, 64E17, 64E19, and 64E28 F.A.C. and 386 sanitary nuisances.
- Communicate 64E16, 64E17, 64E19, and 64E28 F.A.C. requirements to regulated establishments.
- Assist the Environmental Manager on the operations of the tattoo, body piercing, and biomedical waste programs.
- Review permit applications and identify environmental impacts.
- Respond to requests for training materials and information from the general public.
- Provide in-service training and lectures before large groups.
- Review inspections for Environmental Specialist II.
- Assist in carrying out the inspection program to assure compliance.
- Review Program related documents for accuracy.
- Maintain monthly compliance for all programs under the Biomedical Waste & Body Art Programs.
- Investigate complaints concerning noncompliance of 64E16, 64E17, 64E19, and 64E28 of the Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.).
- Complete complaint investigations and reports on results in a timely manner.
- Conduct clean-ups of small amounts of biomedical waste.
- Coordinate with the Department of Environmental Protection for large spills and public dumping or other emergencies.
- Initiate enforcement actions by drafting non-compliance and warning letters and assisting with other enforcement documents.
- Consult with officials from local and state governmental offices, as well as private companies for enforcement of biomedical waste regulations.
- Use Miami-Dade County Health Department administrative procedures to enforce the rules and regulations against biomedical waste generators who do not comply with regulations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic principles of environmental health or one of the natural or physical science, including knowledge of scientific terminology and technology.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills to execute program related services.
- Skill in methods of data collection including the ability to collect, record, and analyze technical data relating to environmental health.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policy and procedure related to environmental health, including enforcing regulations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community leaders and others in a stressful environment while providing total quality environmental health services.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing plus the ability to read and interpret written materials.
Qualifications
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in physical or natural science from an accredited college or university with no less than 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of major course work in physical or natural sciences, valid driver's license, access to private automobile to conduct work related duties.
