Environmental Health Technician

Duties

  • Operates six (6) or more pieces of the heavy highway construction and maintenance equipment, such as laydown machine, snow blower, plastic crosswalk machine, highway striping machine, graders, front end loader, chip spreaders, trucks including tractor and low boy trailers, excavator, backhoe, sewer cleaner, and bulldozer.
  • Performs manual labor duties requiring the use of hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, saws, power drills, post hole diggers, and 60 or 90 lb. jack hammer.
  • Operates light equipment such as patch truck, patch roller, forklift, hand mower, tandem axle dump truck with snow plow, and crosswalk powder paint striper.
  • Prepares and patches damaged roadway areas with asphalt including shoveling, and raking of the asphalt.
  • Controls traffic at work site by flagging and/or placing barricades.
  • Performs other manual labor duties such as cutting weeds, push mowers, weed eaters, etc.
  • Performs journeyman concrete finishing duties when required.
  • Removes snow from streets and other public thoroughfares; spreads salt or sand onto the roadway with tandem axle truck.
  • Checks and maintains proper fluid levels and air pressures of equipment.
  • Serves as lead person in absence of Foreman.
  • Requirements

    • High school graduation or GED equivalent AND Three (3) years' experience with Heavy Highway Equipment with at least two (2) years as an Equipment Operator (per Arapahoe County position description) or equivalent combination of education and experience that satisfy the requirements of the job.

    Necessary Special Requirements

    • Possession of a Colorado CDL, "A" driver's license.
