Job Summary
The EHS Technician will assist in ensuring a safe and compliant work environment at MICA Steelworks, Inc., a steel fabrication and galvanizing facility. This role supports the EHS team by conducting safety audits, maintaining records, facilitating training, and ensuring adherence to OSHA, EPA, and Texas state regulations. The role requires a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk mitigation specific to steel fabrication, including welding, grinding, and material handling.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Plus 1 to 3 years' EHS experience in a manufacturing environment or steel fabrication environment preferred.
- Knowledge of federal, state (Texas), and local EHS regulations, with the ability to access compliance resources.
- Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
- Experience in training and employee instruction.
- Medium level knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Entry level in basic safety knowledge and willingness to learn.
- Preferred but not required: certified OSHA 10 or 30
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate regulatory requirements to employees.
- Effective communication skills for training and policy enforcement.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced steel fabrication environment.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on risk identification and mitigation.
- Ability to pass a background check, including drug screening and physical examination.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the implementation and maintenance of safety programs related to welding, grinding, metal cutting, and heavy equipment operation.
- Aid in safety inspections and audits to ensure compliance with OSHA and company policies.
- Maintain records of employee safety training and certifications.
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Ensure new hire safety orientation includes steel fabricationspecific hazards.
- Administer and track Return-to-Work programs for injured employees.
- Maintain safety data sheets (SDS) and hazardous material inventory.
- Serve as a point of contact for emergency response coordination and spill containment.
- Collect and analyze data on safety performance and propose improvements.
- Assist with special projects, as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position requires regular presence on the shop floor, exposure to noise, welding fumes, dust, and moving machinery.
