About the role

The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist 1, 2, or 3 to join District Two’s team. This position requires willingness to work weekends and non-traditional hours, and travel is also required.

Responsibilities

  • EHS I: Under supervision, assists in inspections, interviews, and technical reviews. Assists in investigating complaints and recommending enforcement action as necessary.
  • EHS II: Performs inspections, conducts interviews and technical reviews. Investigates complaints and provides environmental health education and technical assistance. Interprets regulatory and technical issues to document compliance.
  • EHS III: Functions as a technical specialist for Environmental Health. Performs inspections, interviews, and technical reviews. Investigates complaints and recommends enforcement action as necessary. Provides environmental health education and technical assistance. Implements programs for compliance, monitoring, enforcement, and corrective action.

Requirements

  • EHS I: Bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences, 27 semester or 40 quarter hours. Experience with data entry systems, field electronic applications/software, public relations.
  • EHS II: Bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences, 40 quarter hours. One year experience at lower level or position equivalent. Completion of GA EH training program, Standardization on the Georgia Food Code, On-Site Sewage Management System certifications.
  • EHS III: Bachelor's degree in laboratory sciences, 40 quarter hours. One year experience at lower level PH Envir Compl Specialist 2 or position equivalent. Completion of GA EH training program, all On-Site Sewage Management System Certifications, NIMS courses, ServSafe certification, digital health department system experience.

Qualifications

  • EHS I: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences. Preferred qualifications include experience with data entry systems, field electronic applications/software, public relations.
  • EHS II: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences. One year experience at lower level or position equivalent. Preferred qualifications include attendance and completion of the GA EH training program, Standardization on the Georgia Food Code, On-Site Sewage Management System certifications.
  • EHS III: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences. One year experience at lower level PH Envir Compl Specialist 2 or position equivalent. Preferred qualifications include 3+ years experience in Environmental Health, all On-Site Sewage Management System Certifications, NIMS courses, ServSafe certification, digital health department system experience.
