About the role
JELD-WEN is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist to lead site environmental, health and safety initiatives. This position reports directly to the EHS Manager.
Responsibilities
- Identify environmental, health & safety risks and hazards in the workplace and implement prevention programs
- Advises site leaders and employees on minimizing risks and improving environmental, health & safety performance
- Works with maintenance to install and maintain EH&S standards and equipment
- Trains site employees on environmental, health & safety requirements and the EH&S management system
- Trains line managers to recognize hazards and risks and leads the line organization in hazard identification and control
- Conducts workplace environmental, health & safety inspections
- Manages emergency procedures such as fire alarm drills
- Offers general environmental, health & safety advice to all employees
- Reports injuries, illnesses, and near misses to the corporate environmental, health & safety department and business leaders
- Establishes site-specific EH&S reports and communicates performance with site leadership
- Maintains accurate EH&S records, including OSHA injury & illness logs, environmental permits and testing, training documentation, equipment inspection records, etc.
- Tracks environmental, health & safety inspection and audit findings to closure
- Assists the plant manager in establishing and maintaining a site environmental, health & safety council
- Performs on-the-floor related inspections on safety and environmental standards
- Shares environmental, health & safety lessons learned and encourages a learning culture
- Partners closely with all site leaders to create, maintain, and improve the safety environment
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Sciences, Engineering or a similar field
- Consideration for equivalent experience and certifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
- 5 - 6 years of environmental, health & safety experience in a manufacturing organization
- Process safety management experience desired
- Significant knowledge of U.S. Environmental, Safety & Health laws (OSHA & EPA) required
- Experience using web-based systems to support EH&S, such as Process Map, Enablon, Gen-Suite, or similar
- Strong communication, presentation, training, and facilitation skills
- Proficiency in LEAN and Continuous Improvement manufacturing principles
