Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

About the role

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist develops, implements, and continuously improves EHS programs to align with operational goals and ensure a safe, compliant, and sustainable workplace. This role focuses on compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies, conducting risk assessments, leading safety audits, and mitigating hazards.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and training programs that align with operational goals.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards; maintain documentation and report incidents.
• Conduct regular workplace audits, risk assessments, and safety inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
• Lead investigations into workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver training sessions on health and safety practices, emergency response protocols, and environmental stewardship.
• Collaborate with leadership to drive sustainability initiatives such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and pollution prevention.
• Oversee facility maintenance and safety, including building inspections, vendor coordination, and equipment functionality.
• Coordinate emergency response plans and drills to ensure readiness for fires, chemical spills, or medical incidents.
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports, including injury logs, environmental permits, and safety performance metrics.
• Oversee third-party contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with EHS requirements and safety guidelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in an EHS role, preferably in a startup or fast-paced environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant EHS regulations.
• Certification(s) such as CSP, ASP, or CIH (preferred but not required).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to assess risk proactively.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train and influence employees at all levels.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-moving environment.
