About the Role

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager – Hazardous Materials is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the company's hazardous materials (HazMat) strategy and compliance program across all operations. This role serves as the subject matter expert for hazardous materials management, ensuring safe handling, storage, transportation, use, and disposal of regulated materials while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The EHS Manager partners with Legal, Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Facilities, Procurement, Human Resources, and external regulatory agencies to build a world-class safety culture.

Responsibilities

• Hazardous Materials Program Leadership: Develop, implement, and improve the company’s Hazardous Materials Management Program. Establish policies, procedures, and practices for handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, state environmental agencies, and fire codes.
• Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Serve as the primary authority on hazardous materials compliance and regulatory interpretation. Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and partner with Legal on compliance audits and regulatory inspections.
• Hazardous Materials Operations: Oversee inventory management, classification, labeling, storage, segregation, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventories. Support transportation compliance for hazardous material shipments.
• Emergency Preparedness & Incident Response: Lead emergency preparedness planning and response efforts. Serve as Incident Commander or technical lead during HazMat-related emergencies. Develop spill response procedures, emergency action plans, and business continuity protocols.
• Training & Safety Culture: Design and deliver hazardous materials training programs for employees, contractors, and emergency response teams. Promote a proactive safety culture and provide technical guidance across the organization.
• Continuous Improvement: Analyze safety performance metrics and compliance data to identify improvement opportunities. Benchmark industry best practices and recommend innovative technologies and processes.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive Environmental Health & Safety experience with a focus on hazardous materials management in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or industrial environments.
• Experience developing and implementing enterprise-wide HazMat compliance programs.
• Ability to support regulatory inspections and manage relationships with governmental agencies.
• Demonstrated success leading emergency response activities and conducting incident investigations.
• Ability to obtain a current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar professional certification.
• Strong leadership and decision-making capabilities, particularly during emergency situations.
• Excellent project management, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical business processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels.
• Continuous improvement mindset focused on reducing risk, enhancing compliance, and driving operational excellence.
• High ethical standards, sound judgment, and a commitment to protecting people, the environment, and company assets.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $111,581 to $136,377 annually, based on qualifications, experience, and geographical location. Parts Town is a pay-for-performance company, offering a profit-sharing program and annual bonuses for eligible roles.
