About the role

The Environmental Health Program Lead supports NASA's Occupational Health Mission at the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) in Edwards, California. This position serves as the technical lead for Environmental Health activities and provides leadership, oversight, and subject matter expertise across various areas.

Responsibilities

  • Lead implementation of Environmental Health and Industrial Hygiene programs.
  • Serve as the primary technical advisor regarding occupational and environmental health hazards.
  • Support compliance with NASA Occupational Health Program requirements, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Develop Environmental Health priorities, work plans, and program improvement initiatives.
  • Career development opportunities include advancement to positions such as Health Physicist / Radiation Safety Program Manager (with CHP certification preferred).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Physical Science, or related discipline.
  • Minimum six (6) years of progressively responsible experience supporting Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Health Physics, or related technical programs.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting workplace exposure assessments and industrial hygiene evaluations.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA occupational health regulations, industrial hygiene principles and practices, occupational exposure assessment methodologies, hazard recognition and control strategies, and medical surveillance support principles.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain access to federal facilities.

Qualifications

  • Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree and minimum six (6) years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred qualifications include a CIH certification, CAC or CSST certification, experience supporting federal Occupational Health Programs, and experience with radiation safety or Health Physics programs.
