About the Role

WIN Waste Innovations is seeking an EHS Specialist to provide routine operations support, assistance, and coordination. The Specialist performs inspections, responds to EHS events, and helps assigned sites with administrative environmental and safety systems, reports, and submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Training and Meetings
    • Implement safety and environmental training programs for facilities.
    • Arrange, coordinate, and perform training, including new employee on-boarding orientation and ongoing training programs.
    • Aid the Environmental and Safety Managers with evaluation of training methods and presentations.
    • Establish, assist, and participate in EHS meetings, incident review calls, operations calls, site Safety Committee, and other assigned meetings.
    • Complete on-boarding training programs within prescribed time frames and request support from corporate EHS staff when necessary.
    • Assist site teams with completing Observations and help local management assess performance.
    • Aid site, safety, and environmental leadership in coaching employees based on performance and needs.
    • Attend and participate in facility meetings to evaluate team commitment, function, and effectiveness.
    • Provide input on environmental compliance, safety matters, continuous improvement projects, and share best practices.
    • Periodically meet with Plant Manager/General Manager and/or Operations Manager to discuss open environmental compliance and safety issues.
    • Participate in school programs, tours, and other public presentations as appropriate.
    • Support and travel to 5-7 locations within the local geographic footprint.
  • Inspection, Monitoring, and Reporting
    • Develop, implement, and maintain monitoring programs for solid waste generation and water discharges to meet federal and state regulations.
    • Implement, follow, and assist in enforcement of company policies and procedures to ensure an environmentally compliant, safe workplace.
    • Establish and maintain a routine site visit calendar and communicate with facility operations teams to maximize effectiveness.
    • Monitor and complete EHS inspections for compliance with federal, state, county, and local operating permits.
    • Prepare and submit reports on findings and recommended actions to Operations and EHS.
    • Provide on-site stack test observation and support.
    • Assist with Air program compliance reporting.
  • Incident Response
    • Act as, respond to, or assist as an Emergency Coordinator for the facility in the event of a significant environmental or safety event.
    • Serve as the main point of contact for communication, documentation, and reporting to environmental and safety regulatory agencies as assigned.
    • Assist the Safety, Environmental, and Operations team with initial reporting for each environmental compliance or safety incident.
    • Aid in root cause analysis, gathering evidence, required reporting, interviewing employees, and ensuring actions are completed within required time frames.
  • Administrative and Site Support
    • Provide operations team support with maintaining compliance for FMCSA regulated Driver and Vehicle files.
    • Assist Operations with planning, execution, and evaluation of emergency drills.
    • Maintain an accurate filing system for environmental compliance and safety records.
    • Be the primary point of contact and provide administration for safety and environmental computer systems such as Lytx, Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM), SharePoint, PI, Velocity, and TagLink.
    • Support other projects as directed, such as PMO (Project Management Office), VPP Preparation (OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program), Clean Sweeps, etc.
    • Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback to plant management.
    • Perform outage scaffold inspections as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science in Safety, Engineering, Environmental, or experience in a technical position.
  • Math skills sufficient to complete required job functions.
  • Working knowledge of computers and ability to learn new EHS software systems.
  • Initiative to work independently.
  • Ability to travel between WIN facilities.
  • Ability to interface with front-line employees and site management.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written, including use of intercom systems, two-way radios, or face-to-face interactions.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

  • Physical Demands:
    • Stand and sit for prolonged periods.
    • Walk and handle tools, equipment, and fine motor skills.

    • Stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, and crawl.
    • Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress.
    • Lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, and uneven surfaces.
    • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception (corrected or otherwise).
    • Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose at 125 psi line pressure to extinguish fires.
    • Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lb portable units.
    • Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways.
