Environmental Field Technician - Oak Ridge, TN
Position Summary
Provides support to environmental and structural characterization sample collection and office activities in the acquisition of environmental data. Position will require support to various waste disposition and facility characterization efforts to support waste management disposition alternatives. This could include but is not limited to working in various active and inactive facilities utilizing power and hand tools for the collection and documentation of structural materials such as concrete, structural steel, wood, various liquids, system piping and equipment, asbestos, paint, drums, filters, various radiological materials, residues, soil, sediment, and other legacy materials, and inspections. Additional activities include but are not limited to: field procedure compliance, field equipment calibration, field documentation (logbooks, forms, etc.).
Responsibilities
- Provides environmental characterization and/or support to field teams performing data collection activities in the support of various environmental regulatory agreements and requirements.
- Position is 80% field/20% office. Must be able to work in all field conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) wearing respiratory protection, field coveralls, etc.
- Perform pre-field mobilization activities with field teams, deploy to field locations and support end of day equipment and data management activities.
- Understand the purpose and processes of field data acquisition.
- Support and be part of an organization with a strong safety culture.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in environmental and facility characterization
- Related degree or job experience in environmental science, biology, geology, etc.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to operate company vehicles and be insured on corporate insurance (clean driving record)
- Team players only- ability to work well with others on a daily basis and be flexible
- Ability to work in inclement weather on a daily basis (rain, snow, hot, cold, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of scientific/environmental engineering concepts, experience, and demonstrated ability
- Knowledge of EPA procedures (chain of custody, log books/documentation, sample handling)
- OSHA 40hr HAZWOPER and Rad Worker II training preferred
- Depending on the project/customer being supported, some travel may be required
- Have or the ability to obtain a DOE security clearance
- Experience in environmental and facility characterization a plus.
