Environmental Field Chemist I
About the role
Chemists work in the field on customer locations conducting chemical management, packaging, and disposal services for hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspection/audit services to assess customers’ compliance with hazmat storage, waste management, and occupational safety regulations.
- Handle, classify, segregate, label, and package hazardous and non-hazardous materials according to Federal and State regulations.
- Train laboratory/production staff to understand proper chemical handling/storage techniques and relevant environmental laws.
- Respond to emergency chemical spills and perform cleanup duties.
- Prepare shipping documents and coordinate transportation of chemical products and hazardous waste materials to and from customer sites.
- Perform consolidation of hazardous materials/waste (i.e., bulking, repackaging).
- Provide expert knowledge on government regulations, health and safety practices, and proper disposal methods to customers.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must be willing and able to obtain a commercial driver’s license within 90 days of employment.
- Must be willing and able to wear and safely use all levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) including air-purifying respirators.
- Pass a Pre-Employment Physical, Drug Screen, and Alcohol testing.
- Pass a Pre-Employment Background Screening.
- Pass the Company's Auto Insurance Qualifiers.
- Pass the OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training.
Qualifications
- Experience in hazardous waste classification, lab pack segregation, and waste handling preferred.
- Working Knowledge of applicable DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations preferred.
