About the Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need environmental engineers to make it happen. Your domain expertise will directly shape how AI reasons through real-world problems in water treatment, air quality, hazardous waste, and environmental compliance.
This is a rare opportunity to sit at the intersection of environmental science and cutting-edge AI — without leaving your home office.

What You'll Do
- Design Challenging Problems — Craft advanced environmental engineering scenarios spanning contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment systems, hydrology, and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) that push AI models to their limits
- Build Ground-Truth Solutions — Author rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion simulations that serve as the benchmark for AI responses
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and mathematical reasoning for technical accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance (e.g., EPA standards, ISO 14001)
- Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify where AI goes wrong — incorrect stoichiometry, flawed mass balances, overlooked secondary impacts — and provide structured feedback that improves how models think through environmental problems
- Work Independently — Complete task-based assignments asynchronously on a schedule that fits your life
Who You Are
- Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental focus), or a closely related discipline
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation
- Able to communicate complex technical and ecological concepts clearly in writing
- Highly precise — comfortable checking unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory logic for errors
No prior AI experience required — we'll bring you up to speed
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or technical review workflows
- Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, or similar)
- Experience writing technical reports, environmental assessments, or academic research
