Environmental Engineering - AI Data Trainer
About the role
AI is advancing fast — but it still makes mistakes that only a real expert can catch. We're looking for environmental engineers to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models on complex technical topics like wastewater treatment, air quality management, hazardous waste remediation, and regulatory compliance. Your domain knowledge will directly shape how AI reasons through real-world environmental problems — making these systems safer, smarter, and more reliable for engineers and researchers worldwide.
Responsibilities
- Design Challenging Problems — Develop advanced technical problems spanning contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, pollutant dispersion, and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step solutions — including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and remediation plans — that serve as benchmark responses for AI training
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated environmental impact statements, remediation plans, and engineering calculations for technical accuracy, regulatory compliance (EPA, ISO 14001), and safety
- Improve AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI outputs — such as incorrect stoichiometry, flawed hydraulic assumptions, or overlooked secondary environmental impacts — and provide structured feedback to improve model performance
- Work Asynchronously — Complete tasks independently on a schedule that fits your life
Requirements
Advanced Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (with environmental focus), or a closely related field — Masters (pursuing or completed) or PhD
Strong Domain Knowledge in one or more areas: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, solid/hazardous waste management, or environmental remediation
Precise and Detail-Oriented — Comfortable checking unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory logic with a high degree of accuracy
Clear Technical Writer — Able to explain complex engineering and ecological concepts in structured, well-reasoned written form
No prior AI experience required — we'll get you up to speed
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, data quality review, or evaluation workflows
- Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, MODFLOW)
- Background in EHS compliance or environmental consulting
