Environmental Engineer Supervisor

About the role

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC) protects land, air, and water resources while supporting innovative, resilient, and sustainable energy solutions. As the Environmental Engineer Supervisor in the Division of Water's Surface Water Permits Branch (Industrial Section) located at 300 Sower Blvd, Frankfort, KY, you will lead a team preparing KPDES and KNDOP permits for industrial and agricultural facilities, providing technical assistance, serving as an expert witness, representing the Division at meetings and conferences, and conducting required site visits.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of employees in the Industrial Section, including approving and denying leave requests, approving timesheets, providing coaching, completing staff evaluations, etc.
• Review draft permit documents for KNDOP permits for industrial and agriculture facilities and KPDES discharge permits from industrial facilities and sanitary wastewater treatment plants to determine compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
• Provide technical assistance regarding environmental statutes and regulations related to KPDES and KNDOP permits.
• Act as an expert witness at hearings regarding the permitting programs.
• Represent the Division of Water at meetings and conferences related to KPDES and KNDOP permitting activities and conduct site visits as required.

Requirements

• Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.
• Education substitution: A master's degree in engineering substitutes for one year of the required experience; graduate work beyond a master's substitutes year-for-year.
• Experience substitution for education: None.
• Probationary period: Initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
