Responsibilities

  • Conduct and oversee site inspections, assessments, investigations, and cleanups in accordance with state and federal regulatory guidelines.
  • Work with environmental technicians and other technical staff in data collection, site inspection/investigation, and evaluation of data collected in support of environmental project objectives.
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation.
  • Review and document the processes necessary to obtain, develop and/or update environmental permits, plans, reports, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental compliance and restoration project objectives.
  • Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements.
  • Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data.
  • Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
  • Support project planning and RFP responses.
  • Participate and lead in creating an effective team dynamic.
  • Provides technical QC of documentation.
  • Is a lead author of technical documentation.
  • Is a technical liaison for Clients.
  • Lead a proactive safety culture.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Supervise junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or other engineering discipline.
  • Seven to fifteen years of experience working on environmental projects required.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.

Qualifications

  • A broad understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Active research on emerging contaminants preferred.
  • ADEC’s definition of a Qualified Professional is preferred for Alaska projects.
  • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations certificate preferred.
  • Familiar with federal and state regulations relating to stormwater, wastewater, air quality/emissions, oil storage, and waste in PE-licensed state(s).
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations relating to environmental restoration projects in same state(s) a plus.
  • Experience in federal government projects is highly desired.
  • ArcGIS experience preferred.
  • Hazardous Waste Operation and Emergency Response training with current 8-hour refresher preferred.
  • Experience with Health and Safety functions a plus.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the practical application of environmental engineering science and technology.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Basic computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs.
  • Effective oral and technical written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate complex information to others as well as to present information in front of a group.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and confidentially process and maintain data with accuracy with directions and mentorship.
  • Ability to effectively lead projects and work with multi-disciplined teams.
  • Ability to proactively identify tasks to be completed, be self-directed, and accountable for results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively & collaborate productively.
  • Ability to demonstrate positional expertise.
  • Ability to understand the business and finance needs.

The position requires flexibility to work at the office in Anchorage or Fairbanks, AK, Post Falls, ID, Salt Lake City, UT, or Portland, ME, and utilize your knowledge to participate in collecting, synthesizing, and documenting data relating to environmental compliance tasks.
