Environmental Engineer II
HGL (HydroGeoLogic, Inc.) is seeking an experienced Environmental Engineer II based in the Denver, Colorado area to support environmental projects for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, primarily in the Rocky Mountain region. Projects involve investigation and remediation of sites impacted by emerging contaminants (PFAS), chlorinated solvents, petroleum compounds, and abandoned mine lands.
Responsibilities
- Ensure field operations are conducted safely in accordance with project-specific Site Safety and Health Plans, design specifications, and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in field teams for collection of water, soil, soil vapor, surface water, and sediment samples using various sampling techniques.
- Assist with remedial system installation and operations & maintenance services.
- Provide field subcontractor oversight for remediation, waste transportation and disposal, and heavy equipment operation.
- Contribute to the preparation of work plans and project deliverables (e.g., UFP-QAPPs, RI Reports, SSHPs/HASPs, PowerPoint presentations, and technical memoranda).
- Assist with data entry, analysis, and interpretation of environmental data using statistical and visualization tools.
- Manage or lead field teams collecting general field data, completing environmental sampling, and managing remedial systems.
- Travel up to 50% within the U.S. (primarily in the western U.S.).
- Utilize approved digital and AI-assisted tools to support technical documentation, data analysis, project communications, and workflow efficiency.
Requirements
- 4+ years of related work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological/Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with environmental investigations, including groundwater, soil, and surface water/sediment sampling methodologies.
- Experience with environmental remediation projects.
- Experience contributing to the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, and work plans.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and organization.
- Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and other MS Office applications.
- Possess or have the ability to obtain OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification upon employment.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new technologies and digital tools to improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geological/Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- EIT certification (preferred).
- Experience as a Task Manager or Field Team Leader for environmental investigations and/or remediation projects (preferred).
- Knowledge and experience with CERCLA, DoD, DOE, EPA, and/or RCRA projects (preferred).
- PFAS sampling or remediation experience (preferred).
- Remediation system design and/or installation experience (preferred).
- Experience with characterization and remediation of abandoned mine land sites (preferred).
- Experience using generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) to improve technical writing, data analysis, research, visualization, or project delivery efficiency (preferred).
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift/move/relocate items up to 50 lbs.
- Walking long distances and over uneven or mountainous terrain.
- Ability to see details at close range and view computer screens for extended periods.
- Ability to interpret and analyze visual data (maps, graphs, warning indicators, etc.).
- Driving a company or personal vehicle.
- Analyzing and synthesizing data, complex problem solving, and decision making.
- Reading and interpreting technical documents or regulations.
- Writing reports, proposals, or technical documentation.
- Leading a team or coordinating multiple priorities.
- Communicating effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
- Potential to work in environments with loud noises, dust, or hazardous materials.
- Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Office work environment with potential for longer days up to 12 hours in duration.
Schedule
- 5-day work week for office work; fieldwork schedules may require longer hours and weekends.
- Fully in-office, 5 days per week.
- Up to 50% travel required.
Pay
The annual salary for this position ranges from $71,639 to $107,458. The final salary may be impacted by factors including, but not limited to, contractual requirements, geographic location, job-related education, training, experience, and skills.
