Environmental Engineer Co-Op
About the role
TNA is seeking an Environmental Engineering Co-op Student for the Environmental Health Safety & Security (EHSS) department. This position supports the EHSS department’s environmental objectives to ensure compliance with all current and future Federal, State, and local environmental regulations and permit requirements, as well as the development of sustainability initiatives.
Throughout the co-op's tenure, the student will gain a comprehensive understanding of the tire manufacturing process, including air quality monitoring, wastewater treatment, waste reduction strategies, and regulatory requirements applicable to the tire and rubber manufacturing industry. This includes air monitoring and controls, wastewater controls, stormwater pollution control, liquid and solid waste collection, wastewater treatment and disposal, recycling, and decarbonization projects.
The role involves applying knowledge of fundamental design, operations, and construction related to air pollution control systems, wastewater pre-treatment facilities, and implementation of Environmental Management System (EMS) standards such as ISO 14001, as well as Stormwater and Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) plans.
Responsibilities
- Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
- Learn basic principles of Environmental Engineering.
- Support the development of sustainability initiatives, including cost reduction programs for compliance systems.
- Assist with the implementation of Toyo Tire’s Stormwater and Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) plans, including conducting inspections.
- Assist with the implementation of Toyo Tire’s Environmental Compliance Calendar.
- Assist with the implementation of the ISO 14001 standard, including data collection, analysis, and program evaluation.
- Assist in automating data collection processes for air quality monitoring, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting, Tier II reporting, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) approval, and chemical data reporting (CDR) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
- Assist with the renewal or modification of air and wastewater permits.
- Assist with project research, preliminary design calculations, and analysis for sustainability initiatives.
- Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates for sustainability programs.
- Support the EHSS department in safety and health programs as needed.
- Collect and maintain project documentation.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to Toyo Tire’s Code of Conduct.
