About the Role
The GM environmental team develops creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. As an Environmental Engineer at General Motors, you will champion air, waste, and water compliance programs while developing initiatives to reduce environmental risk. You will collaborate across functions to implement sustainable solutions that enhance compliance and sustainability at the site, contributing to GM’s Vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and support robust environmental stewardship programs aligned with GM’s mission to deliver sustainable solutions.
- Engage with local regulatory agencies to address environmental challenges.
- Utilize technology and information systems to build and maintain environmental management systems.
- Monitor environmental parameters and progress to recommend continuous improvements.
- Support and improve system designs that preserve the environment, integrate new technologies, and provide long-term solutions.
- Understand plant manufacturing systems, including production processes, wastewater discharges, stormwater management, air emissions, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs to ensure compliance and effective decision-making.
- Interface with business partners and regulatory agencies to prepare required documentation, reports, and compliance testing.
- Cultivate trustful relationships with stakeholders, influencers, and industry partners to optimize Resource & Chemical Management programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements, or related areas.
- Experience in environmental engineering or a related science, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to execute projects.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes.
