Environmental Director of Communications

Overview

The New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) Mission is to protect and restore the environment and to foster a healthy and prosperous New Mexico for present and future generations. NMED implements its mission guided by four tenets: Science, Innovation, Collaboration, and Compliance.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements all external and internal communication strategies and materials.
• Directly supervises at least four staff positions integral to the Department’s communication efforts.
• Collaborates with the Governor’s Office, state agencies, tribes, elected officials, and other stakeholders to explain the mission of the Department.

Requirements

• Demonstrated leadership experience in business acumen, leading people, managing change, driving results, and building coalitions.
• Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders.
• A passion for the protection of New Mexico’s natural environment and how it relates to human health.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Environmental Studies, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications, preferably within a governmental or non-profit setting.
• Experience in developing and implementing strategic communication plans.
• Proven ability to manage and lead a team of communication professionals.
• Strong understanding of environmental issues and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.

Benefits

The salary for this position is between $80,000 and $90,000 annually, depending on experience.
