Join #TeamWake as an Environmental Consultant! Wake County Public Health is seeking qualified applicants for an Environmental Consultant to support the county’s dynamic, leading-edge private well program. This position will perform site evaluations, create and review well permits, conduct inspections for well construction, well repairs and well abandonments, collect water quality samples, and interpret results from private drinking water wells. This position will also provide consultative services to residents including well inspections, water quality sampling, and advice on water quality issues, and will conduct background research and field investigations related to groundwater complaints.
Responsibilities
- Enforces state and local regulations governing construction, testing and abandonment of private drinking water wells including permitting, siting, inspection, and sampling of new wells.
- Provides consultation to homeowners with private wells regarding well construction, water quality and water quantity concerns.
- Works in conjunction with state and local agencies to investigate groundwater contamination incidents.
- Provides assistance to homeowners with questions or concerns about their wells.
- Responds to citizen complaints about wells and conducts enforcement action in accordance with approved procedures, applicable rules and regulations/ordinances.
Requirements
The Basics (Required Education and Experience): Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field; Three years of experience in environmental planning, inspections or engineering; Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record. Equivalent education and experience are accepted. Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience): Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Licensed Geologist, Professional Engineer, or closely related field of licensure.
Qualifications
Knowledge of local and state regulations governing wells or environmental health.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Ability to independently prioritize, manage and coordinate multiple assignments.
Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to analyze situations and offer informed recommendations and guidance to resolve problems.

Pay
Hiring Range: $75,108 - $105,155
Market Range: $75,108.00 - $135,202.00
Schedule
Mon - Fri 8:30am - 5:15pm. Occasional nights and weekends.
