Environmental Aide

About the role

To aid in the operation and maintenance of pollution control equipment to meet environmental standards and production requirements.

Responsibilities

• Aids in repairs to WESP pump, cleans tubes and nozzles
• Aids in maintaining RTO in good working order—bake outs, valve cleaning, and bearing replacement
• Responsible for cleaning and maintaining WESP equipment and building
• Aids in the washout of the RTOs
• Replaces bags, performs leak checks, maintains magnehelic gauge
• Performs visual emissions readings using EPA Method 9 standards during bakeouts or upset conditions and records results
• Aids in maintaining and auditing the opacity monitors
• Applies caustic to maintain a neutral pH in WESP system and monitors daily
• Participates in environmental improvement projects at the mill
• Participates as needed when emission testing is conducted at the mill
• Participates as needed in environmental training at the mill
• Performs all duties according to safety rules and regulations
• Performs other duties as necessary

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
• 1–2 years’ experience in equipment operation, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position

Skills

• Knowledge of complex equipment operation
• Knowledge of general equipment maintenance
• EPA Method 9 certification
• Forklift/manlift certification
• Knowledge of company air use permit requirements
• Knowledge of general environmental laws and terminology
• Time management skills
• Demonstrated mechanical ability
• Ability to accurately use basic math skills
• Ability to read and understand safety rules and regulations

Work Environment

Plant environment with exposure to sawdust, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and other inclement conditions.
