About the role
AECOM is actively seeking an Entry-Level Structural Bridge Engineer for our Roanoke, Virginia office. This is a diverse role that will involve your contribution and insight into the effective delivery of its current and future portfolio of projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the structural analysis and design of highway, railroad, and pedestrian bridges in accordance with AASHTO, DOT, and local agency standards.
- Prepare engineering calculations, design reports, and technical documentation under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Develop and revise bridge plans, details, and construction documents using MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenBridge, or similar design software.
- Support bridge load ratings, inspections, and condition assessments for existing structures.
- Perform quantity calculations and assist with cost estimates for bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects.
- Coverge with multidisciplinary project teams, including roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, and traffic engineers.
- Participate in field inspections, data collection, and construction observation activities.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, and contractor requests for information (RFIs) during construction.
- Aid in the preparation of engineering studies, feasibility analyses, and alternatives evaluations.
- Ensure design work complies with client requirements, applicable codes, and quality control procedures.
- Support project managers with schedule tracking, project documentation, and client deliverables.
- Utilize engineering software to perform structural modeling and bridge analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science from an ABET accredited program in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field.
- Valid US Driver's License is required for this position.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Master of Science (with Structural Engineering concentration) preferred.
- Familiarity with AASHTO Codes and Bridge Engineering practices.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
- Experience with computer analysis and design software such as LEAP Bridge, STAAD.Pro, AASHTOWare BrR, CSiBridge, and MDX.
- Experience with MicroStation, OpenBridge, and AutoCAD.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with clients in a professional manner.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.

Benefits
The offered rate of compensation is $65,000 to $80,000 per year.
