Entry Level Structural Engineer – Mason City, Iowa

Responsibilities

• Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for transportation structure projects.
• Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for building projects.
• Prepare design calculations, reports, and plans for geotechnical projects.
• Develop 2D and 3D models using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and/or OpenBridge Designer software.
• Aid in data collection at project sites, technical report writing, quantity calculations, and design calculations.
• Aid in facilitating project-related public information meetings.
• Afford bridge inspections which may include:
• Conducting field inspections of bridges, culverts, and related structures.
• Documenting structural conditions, deficiencies, and maintenance needs.
• Preparing and reviewing inspection reports, sketches, and photographic documentation.
• Afford construction observation which may include:
• Conducting field-required concrete testing.
• Preparing and documenting material reports, test results and material sources.
• Maintain daily inspection logs and address discrepancies with appropriate parties.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
• E.I. certification or ability to pass the F.E. exam within 6 months.
• 0 – 5 years of experience in structural design.
• A valid driver's license.
• Excellent computer and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Experience with Microsoft Office products, Microstation, OpenRoads Designer, OpenBridge Designer, MathCad, RCPier, STAAD or MDX would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) specifications and procedures is a plus.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Must be able to manage workload independently.
