Entry Level Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Strategic Mission Critical is seeking an Entry Level Mechanical Engineer/Designer to execute mechanical design for mission critical projects. Typical project types include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and various system calculations. The candidate will execute specific design tasks as part of a broader mechanical team while developing their own knowledge and skills, typically under the guidance of senior and/or mid-level engineers. The mechanical design scope will interface with design leads within SMC (electrical, telecommunications, fire protection, plumbing) and externally (architectural, civil, structural).

Responsibilities

• Execute specific mechanical design tasks for various project types while coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines.
• Communicate effectively with co-workers and clients while meeting scheduled project deadlines.
• Work independently and conduct research beyond directly-assigned tasks to support career growth.
• Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents.
• Assist with performing airside and hydronic calculations for multiple mechanical systems.
• Develop hydronic and airflow flow diagrams.
• Learn to select and specify HVAC equipment.
• Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
• Review and understand local and national construction codes and project specifications.
• Use Microsoft tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
• Travel to project sites when required (less than 10% travel).
• Communicate clearly in both written and spoken forms.
• Take direction from senior and mid-level engineers and designers to execute specific design elements.
• Work independently while coordinating with senior personnel and other disciplines.
• Participate in training and mentoring opportunities to grow knowledge and capabilities.
• Maintain excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications

• 2 or 4-year degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology preferred; HVAC construction experience with a drafting certification will be considered.
• Past internship, co-op, or work experience in a consulting engineering role is a plus.
• Experience working in the construction industry is a plus.
• Experience using Revit in either an educational or professional context is a plus.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
