About the role

In a world where technology never stands still, IBMers drive client success through innovation, trust, and personal responsibility. As an IBMer, you’ll develop your skills and career while working in a supportive environment that values courage, experimentation, and collaboration. IBMers are growth-minded, curious, and committed to continuous learning, providing feedback to help colleagues thrive and delivering exceptional outcomes for customers.

Responsibilities

  • VLSI Circuit Design / Physical Design / Integration Engineer: Responsible for the physical and electrical design and development of high-frequency CMOS chips in leading-edge technologies using sophisticated design tools and flows to implement circuit schematics (microprocessors and ASIC) and verify against technology design rules.
  • Analog Circuit Design Engineer: Part of the team delivering high-speed SERDES interfaces for IBM Power and Z microprocessors in advanced 3nm technologies and beyond. Help transition the high-speed IO architecture from NMZ to PAM4 in support of future IBM microprocessors. Design, simulate, and layout circuits using industry standard and IBM proprietary tools, focusing on transmitter, receiver, PLL, or other analog designs.

Requirements

  • VLSI Circuit Design / Physical Design / Integration Engineer:
    • Deliver the physical and electrical design of specific processor and ASIC design elements
    • Understanding of Computer Architectures, Digital System Design, and VLSI Systems
    • Projects in RTL design using Verilog/VHDL
    • Scripting skills (Python)
    • Inter-discipline design experience
  • Analog Circuit Design Engineer:
    • Perform schematic-level design using Cadence design tools
    • Perform in-depth circuit analysis using Spectre and SPICE simulators
    • Analyze the design for manufacturability and end-of-life requirements
    • Develop scripts to parse data using languages like Python
    • Relevant Circuit Design course with applied experience in circuit design
    • Use of Cadence and SPICE tools
    • Understanding of VHDL, Python, Perl, TCL

Qualifications

  • VLSI Circuit Design / Physical Design / Integration Engineer:
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Git and Python hands-on experience
    • Internships or work experience in high-frequency processor or ASIC physical design
    • Exposure to industry microprocessor designs (x86, ARM, or RISC-V)
  • Analog Circuit Design Engineer:
    • Relevant Analog Circuit Design course
    • Understanding of interface terminology such as NMZ, PAM4, CTLE, DFE, PLLs, RX, TX and how these work within a high-speed interface

Skills
