Entry-Level Field Technician - Construction Materials Testing

About the role

Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking an entry-level CMT Field Technician to join the Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a hands-on, outdoor role testing materials like concrete and soil on active construction sites, with opportunities for long-term career growth and stability in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry.

Responsibilities

• Perform field testing on soil, concrete, and other construction materials
• Observe site activities and document results
• Work with construction plans, specs, and field data
• Communicate with project teams and clients
• Follow safety procedures and maintain accurate reports

Work environment

• Outdoor, active job sites (heat, cold, varying conditions)
• Standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs (occasionally more with assistance)
• Overtime and flexible hours may be required based on project needs

Requirements

• No experience required – training provided
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record required
• Effective communication skills (written, verbal, listening) and solid interpersonal skills
• Basic math, calculator, and computer skills required
• Ability to read and understand work plans
• Ability to work off-shift and overtime as needed

Physical requirements

• Ability to lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make sound discriminations
• Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
• Ability to climb occasionally

Preferred qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Experience performing field and/or construction materials testing and/or inspections preferred
• Industry-relevant certifications preferred (ACI, ICC, DOT)

Pay

• Competitive hourly pay: $18–$28/hr (based on experience)
• Overtime available (typical total earnings $55K–$75K+)
• Up to a $1,000 signing bonus
