Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking an Entry-Level Field Technician (Construction Materials Testing) to join our Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Nashville, Tennessee. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to grow a versatile career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry.
Intertek's Building and Construction division provides innovative project solutions and serves as a risk management and quality assurance partner to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of new developments, existing assets, and facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of testing, project-specific observations, and site assessment duties under general supervision and/or from detailed controlled procedures.
- Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., soil, concrete) while providing assessment of data through reporting.
- Work utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
- Use specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks.
- Make detailed observations and provide limited interpretation of results.
- Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results.
- Operate a calculator to calculate mathematical test results.
- Communicate effectively with client and project teams.
- Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
Requirements
- Basic math, calculator, and computer skills.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal and written communication.
- Ability to read and understand work plans.
- Ability to work off shifts and overtime.
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently; occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations in sound.
- Ability to kneel and squat occasionally.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold).
- Ability to climb occasionally.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
- Experience performing field and/or laboratory construction materials testing is preferred but not required.
- ACI, ICC, or TNDOT certifications are preferred.
