Entry Level Environmental Scientist

About the role

Dewberry is seeking an Entry Level Environmental Scientist to join our Orlando, FL office. This position involves environmental permitting, including natural resource inventory, analysis, wetland delineation, species assessments, permitting, and mitigation.

The successful candidate will assist in desktop reviews of natural resources for various projects and conduct field reviews of soil, hydrology, vegetation inventories, plant identifications, and wildlife assessments. Responsibilities also include preparing plans, specifications, maps, exhibits, and supporting documentation for client and regulatory approvals, as well as assisting with federal, state, and local government permit applications, GIS analyses, and documenting field investigation results.

Responsibilities

• Perform work associated with environmental permitting, including natural resource inventory and analysis.
• Conduct wetland delineation, species assessments, and mitigation activities.
• Assist in desktop reviews of natural resources for various project types.
• Conduct field reviews of soil, hydrology, vegetation inventories, plant identifications, and wildlife assessments.
• Prepare plans, specifications, maps, exhibits, and supporting documentation for client and regulatory approvals.
• Assist with preparation of federal, state, and local government permit applications.
• Perform GIS analyses and document field investigation results.
• Coordinate environmental permitting and assessment activities with internal/external clients and regulatory agencies.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, or a related field.
• Previous internship experience preferred.
• Proficiency with ArcMap/GIS, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Capability to perform regular fieldwork in a variety of seasonal conditions.
• Local and occasional statewide travel is required.
