About the role
Seeking a Fresh grad Electrical or Mechanical Engineer with exposure to HVAC, power tools, gardening tools, fans, water heaters, or similar product categories. The role is based in RTP, NC, with a hybrid schedule requiring 3 days per week in the office.
Responsibilities
- Determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and sets project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, supplemental data, and product construction.
- May travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites.
- Initiates and maintains communication with clients to promote services, explain benefits, and address concerns.
- Discusses technical issues, UL procedures, project costs, and negotiates timelines and sample requirements with clients.
- Provides technical assistance to clients regarding product inspection and follow-up services.
- Establishes test programs by reviewing files, manufacturer information, samples, and applying UL requirements.
- Examines samples for compliance with UL requirements and notifies clients of non-compliance or changes in scope/specifications.
- Coordinates laboratory activities by preparing data sheets, scheduling work, reviewing technician tasks, and setting completion dates.
- Coordinates administrative aspects of project management and may serve as Project Handler or Reviewer of record.
- Communicates project status and results to clients through reports and frequent contact.
- Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and integrates continuous improvement concepts into job functions.
- Resolves engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on acceptability.
- Assists in developing UL requirements and special test methods or equipment.
- Analyzes test program adequacy and sequence; may coordinate or perform File Reviews as directed.
- May represent UL at industry functions such as seminars and trade shows.
- Reads and follows the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and adheres to physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.
Qualifications
- Recent graduate (Fresh Grad) candidates are welcome.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Prior exposure to HVAC systems, power tools/drills, gardening tools, permanent fans, dual/micro water heaters, or similar consumer/industrial products is a plus.
- Basic understanding of product testing, evaluation, or certification processes preferred.
Pay
The estimated salary range for this position is $64,800 – $75,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, and geographical location. This position is eligible for an annual bonus with a target payout of 5% of the base salary.
