Entry Level Engineer
Actalent is seeking Entry Level Distribution Engineers to support power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects across Florida. Initial projects are in support of Duke Energy, with future work from FP&L, TECO, and other utilities.
About the role
The Distribution Engineer will perform engineering calculations and design for projects including:
- Replacing deteriorating cable
- Moving overhead lines to underground
- Reconductoring existing distribution lines
- Replacing aging poles
Key engineering calculations involve structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices.
Responsibilities
- Apply basic engineering theories and principles to distribution system design
- Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and prepare recommendations
- Communicate frequently with customers and stakeholders
- Collaborate with individuals from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil) from a 4-year ABET-accredited college or university
- Basic knowledge of electric utility industry concepts, including primary and secondary distribution systems
- Familiarity with utility standards and design software packages
- General construction knowledge and aptitude
- Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and initiative
- Good written and oral communication skills
Qualifications
- Leadership or customer interaction experience in industries such as retail or restaurant
- Experience on the Duke Energy system performing distribution design
- Experience interacting with customers and developers for distribution projects
- Knowledge of BOUD/Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, or Microstation
- EIT certification or passed Engineering Fundamentals Exam
Pay
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $26.00 per hour. Individual compensation will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, and internal equity.
