Entry Level Electrical Engineer
About the role
We’re seeking an Entry Level Electrical Engineer / Designer to help execute electrical design for mission critical projects. Typical project types may include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, design of fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and power systems studies such as Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash.
This candidate will execute specific design tasks as part of a broader electrical team while furthering their own knowledge and developing their skills. The candidate will typically work under the guidance of senior and/or mid-level engineers. The electrical design scope will be part of a broader project, so this candidate will learn to interface with design leads within SMC (mechanical, telecommunications, fire protection, plumbing) as well as externally including architectural, civil, and structural disciplines.

Responsibilities
- Assist with the design and drawing of electrical infrastructure for mission critical buildings and campuses, including medium voltage distribution; highly redundant power systems (distributed and block redundant topologies); on-site generation and UPS backup; and typical building systems such as small power, lighting, grounding, and fire alarm.
- Assist with coordination between internal and external disciplines for required electrical power connections to equipment.
- Review and understand client standards, design criteria, applicable codes, and best practices, working with senior engineers to understand their impact on project design.
- Review and gain an understanding of local and national construction codes and project specifications to broaden knowledge of the construction process.
- Utilize Autodesk Revit daily to produce detailed design documents.
- Use Microsoft tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
- Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
- Travel when required to project sites and/or meetings (less than 10% travel).
- Communicate clearly in both written and spoken forms.
- Take direction from senior and mid-level engineers and designers to execute delivery of specific design elements.
- Actively participate in training and mentoring opportunities to grow knowledge and capabilities.
- Maintain excellent organizational skills, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Requirements
- 2 or 4-year degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology preferred; electrical construction experience with a drafting certification will also be considered.
- Past internship, co-op, or work experience in a consulting engineering role is a plus.
- Experience working in the construction industry is a plus.
- Experience using Revit in either an educational or professional context is a plus.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
Pay
Base Compensation: $65,000–$85,000 (actual compensation varies based on education, experience, skills, and location).
