Entry Level, Delivery Driver

This is an entry-level position requiring a CDL A license.

Pay

Starting rate of $27.00/hr. After training period, drivers earn an average of $80,000 annually with component pay.

Schedule

Rotating 4-day workweek (Monday–Friday), with an occasional 5th day as needed. Drivers average 10-12 hour days. Start and end times vary.

About the Role

Food and food service delivery drivers fulfill a critical role in the country’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers ensure customers’ products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in good condition. They also serve as the face of our company, building lasting relationships with customers.

The Driver, Trainee Formula is an entry-level driver training role. Associates will learn and gain experience in hauling freight and operating tractor trailers while assisting designated driver trainers with deliveries and routes. This role involves professional communication with customers, vendors, and co-workers to answer questions accurately and in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required.
• Ride with and assist driver trainer in executing deliveries.
• Perform all required safety checks (e.g., pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards.
• Report all safety issues and/or repairs required.
• Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies; immediately report all safety hazards.
• Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight; perform count checks of items and verify customer invoices.
• Complete all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
• Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
• Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule.
• Unload products from the trailer and transport items into designated customer storage areas.
• Perform damage control checks on items, scan, and contact supervisor about removing orders according to company policy.
• Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures; collect money (cash or checks) where required.
• Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors.
• Unload damaged goods and customer returns, bring to driver check-in, and complete necessary paperwork.
• Unload all equipment and materials, remove trash from trailers as required.
• Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
• Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clear and clean.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
• Internal PFG Candidates: 1 year of service in good standing as outlined in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, able to attain CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.
• External Entry Level Hire: 0-6 months experience with a CDL.
• Valid CDL A license.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
• Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years.
• Pass post-offer drug test and road test.
• Attain or have a valid current DOT Health Card.
• Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight (60 to 90 pounds) throughout shift.
