About the role

This is an entry-level driver training role. The driver is responsible for learning to and/or gaining experience in driving a tractor trailer or straight truck intrastate and/or interstate on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and/or overnight routes to deliver and unload various food and food-related products to customers. All routes are expected to be completed safely in accordance with all Company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The Driver Trainee communicates and interacts with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring all services and duties are executed in accordance with preferred work methods and customer service practices.

Pay

Drivers average $83,000 annually.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, with layovers and occasional Saturdays. Start and end times vary, with drivers averaging upwards of 12-hour days. 4- and 5-day work weeks available.

Responsibilities

  • Attends and successfully completes PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required. Completes and maintains all training documentation per requirements.
  • Rides with and assists driver trainer in executing deliveries as required. Follows all instructions and directions provided by driver trainer.
  • Performs all required safety checks (e.g., pre/post trip), including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations. Ensures tractor/truck and trailer meet company safety standards and reports any safety issues or required repairs.
  • Follows all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately reports any safety hazards.
  • Inspects trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Performs count checks of items and verifies customer invoices of loaded products.
  • Completes all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
  • Moves tractor to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer as needed.
  • Drives to and delivers customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule.
  • Unloads products from the trailer and transports items into designated customer storage areas. Performs damage control checks, scanning items, and contacts supervisor about removing orders according to company policy.
  • Verifies delivery of items with customer and obtains proper signatures. Collects money (cash or checks) where required.
  • Loads customer returns onto trailer and secures trailer doors. Ensures tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
  • Unloads damaged goods and customer returns, bringing them to driver check-in and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Unloads all equipment, materials, and removes trash from trailers as required.
  • Completes daily record of hours of service and enters logs in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keeps trailers clean as required.
  • At the end of the shift, secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Internal PFG Candidates: 1 year of service in good standing as outlined in the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program, able to attain CDL Permit and DOT Health Card.
  • 0-12 months commercial driving experience.
  • Valid CDL A.
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Meet all State licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
  • Pass post-offer drug test and road test.
  • Attains or has a valid current DOT Health Card.
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, and/or other equipment to move and/or stack product cases/freight of varying size and weight throughout shift (product generally ranges from approximately 60 to 90 pounds).
