Gwinnett County Public Schools is seeking a skilled professional to support its network infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, development, testing, implementation, and support of a highly available, fault-tolerant communications network, aligning with the strategic direction of the department through capital projects related to information management and technology initiatives.
- Design and implement new network solutions or improve existing network infrastructure, including documentation, development, testing, and deployment.
- Study industry standards and current best practices to design solutions that support Gwinnett County Public Schools' strategic goals and priorities.
- Plan and implement Information Management and Technology capital projects in support of the district’s strategic goals.
- Provide high-level network infrastructure support to customer service, local school technical staff, and other internal groups as directed.
- Use approved tools and technical skills to capture network traffic and perform detailed analysis and isolation of potential network or application issues.
- Perform root cause analysis of network infrastructure-related issues.
- Provide direct support for network, hardware, and communications issues via telephone and on-site assistance to level 1 and 2 support staff.
- Maintain professional communication in writing and speaking.
- Monitor and perform trend analysis and documentation of network infrastructure health and operations.
- Respond to monitoring system notifications, communicate issues, and provide remediation steps as directed.
- Supervise and instruct Network Infrastructure Services private contractors, providing mentoring and guidance to meet district goals.
- Work professionally with team members on projects, tasks, and other duties.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair network infrastructure failures and outages, restoring service as quickly as possible to ensure access for students, teachers, and administrators.
- Initiate communications to inform the organization of any failures or outages.
- Provide technical documentation, including comprehensive and accurate records of all administered systems, configuration, integration information, and procedural documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned in a professional manner.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (required).
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree or equivalent (preferred).
- 3 years of experience in implementing and maintaining complex, large-scale network systems and solutions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of the position (required).
- Experience in network design (preferred).
- Experience with server and client operating systems (preferred).
Qualifications
- Alcatel, Aruba, Cisco, CWNA, F5, or Juniper certifications (preferred).
- Knowledge of Wide/Local Area Networks (WAN/LAN) concepts, methodology, and functionality, including routing, switching, and wireless communications.
- Skills in configuring network routers, switching equipment, and related hardware and software.
- Ability to work well and communicate effectively with others, both written and oral.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate needs and problems into creative solutions.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work well with peers and customers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and supervise contracted personnel with minimal guidance.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, negotiate stairs, climb ladders, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to talk, hear, and manipulate tools and small items with hands.
- Ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle in the performance of duties.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
- May be subjected to a wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions while working on equipment, including overhead work and work in confined spaces.
- Potential hazards include working with electricity, heat and noise-producing machinery, elevated equipment using ladders or lifting devices, and use of chemicals and solvents.
