About the role

As a Systems Director in the Civil Systems Group, you will provide leadership, planning, and direction to an experienced team of engineers, working closely with Engineering Technical Managers to support the mission of the Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of Defense Programs (DP). You will lead systems engineering and analysis for Defense Program tasks, mentor your team, and leverage Aerospace’s network of subject matter experts to deliver innovative solutions. Additionally, you will identify new opportunities to apply Aerospace capabilities to NNSA challenges.

This is a full-time position based in Albuquerque, NM, Crystal City, VA, Colorado Springs, CO, or El Segundo, CA, requiring a minimum of 4 days per week onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Principal Director and management team to lead and manage the Aerospace Enterprise Engineering team, addressing complex challenges for Defense Programs within the NNSA.
  • Support the establishment of the Enterprise Engineering organization’s objectives and goals, and communicate them to subordinates and interfacing organizations.
  • Provide strategic leadership aligned with corporate policies, goals, and objectives.
  • Participate in determining organizational structure, staffing, and resource needs, including budget planning and allocation.
  • Report the organization’s activities, progress, and achievements through written and oral communications to management, subordinates, and customers.
  • Coordinate work activities, monitor workload and schedules, and ensure completion of assignments within cost and schedule guidelines.
  • Identify opportunities for expanded or new business and assist senior management in evaluating and pursuing them.
  • Collaborate and communicate frequently with customers to coordinate and report work progress, issues, and results.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews, recommend performance improvements, career development, salary, and promotion actions, and advise on staffing needs, reassignments, training, and transfers.
  • Direct technical groups performing engineering design, analysis, or research and development activities.
  • Influence customers to adopt more integrated solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or another appropriate technical discipline.
  • 12 or more years of progressively responsible professional engineering or scientific experience.
  • Experience in a managerial or leadership role with proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Demonstrated networking, teaming, management, and leadership skills within a program office or matrixed technical organization.
  • Proven technical credibility across a broad set of systems engineering topics and a deep understanding of complex systems engineering.
  • Experience working with U.S. government agencies such as DOE/NNSA and DoD.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Availability for domestic travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Current and active Top Secret or Q security clearance, issued by the U.S. government (U.S. citizenship required to obtain a security clearance).

Qualifications

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in engineering or math with specific experience in Systems or Digital Engineering.
  • Familiarity with the DOE and NNSA National Laboratories in the Defense Programs Arena.
  • Knowledge of the Aerospace Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) skills and capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to create solutions addressing national security needs.
  • Holds a TS or DOE Q clearance with the ability to obtain SCI.

Pay

The grade-based pay range for this job is $168,200.00 - $252,400.00 per year. Individual salaries within that range are determined by factors including education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
