About the role

Strive Charter School is opening in Fall 2026 in a newly renovated historic school building at 604 E. 139th Street in the South Bronx. Strive is an extended-time elementary school built around literacy, play, choice, relationships, and whole-child development. We believe children learn best in warm, joyful environments where they are known, respected, and given meaningful opportunities to explore their interests. Our enrichment programming is an important part of that vision.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop enrichment programming and scheduling for after school, weekend enrichment, and summer camp.
  • Create clear program blocks that allow students to make autonomous choices among enrichment activities.
  • Supervise after-school teachers, assistant teachers, summer interns, and volunteers during enrichment programming.
  • Ensure students are safe, supervised, engaged, and supported during all enrichment blocks.
  • Serve as the point person for families regarding enrichment programming, questions, concerns, and daily communication.
  • Support smooth transitions, meals, recreation, independent reading, enrichment activities, dismissal, and program closeout.
  • Monitor program spaces and ensure staff are actively supervising students and following Strive’s expectations.
  • Address student behavior in the moment using Strive’s expectations and procedures.
  • Communicate with Assistant Principals and the School Principal when additional support is needed.
  • Help create a positive, organized, child-centered, and family-centered enrichment culture.

Requirements

  • We Are Looking For Someone Who Is genuinely excited by Strive’s model and child-centered approach.
  • Has at least 2 years of experience working with children from preschool through elementary school age.
  • Has at least 2 years of supervisory experience or similar experience, preferably supervising after-school staff, assistant teachers, camp counselors, interns, youth workers, or volunteers.
  • Has experience in after-school, camp, childcare, recreation, youth development, enrichment, or elementary school settings.
  • Can build clear structures while still honoring student choice, play, independence, and creativity.
  • Communicates warmly and professionally with families, staff, students, and school leaders.
  • Has strong judgment around student safety, behavior support, and escalation.
  • Is committed to creating a safe, joyful, progressive, and child-centered program experience for students and families.

Schedule Requirements

  • Candidates must be available to work weekends and some weekday evenings as needed to support school events, family engagement activities, and other organizational priorities.
  • You will work 50 hours per week.

Compensation/Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000 -- $85,000 based on experience.
  • Total of approximately 6 weeks of PTO per year: 2 weeks off when our school is closed for our winter and summer holidays. 8 days when our school is closed for certain federal holidays. 2 weeks of additional vacation days 5 days of sick/safety leave that can be converted to vacation days if not used.
