Enhanced Scheduler PRN
This role enhances the patient experience by providing a single telephone call to schedule and register for services at Intermountain Healthcare facilities system-wide. The Enhanced Scheduler reviews insurance benefits, estimated costs, payment options, and obtains all necessary demographic, clinical, procedural, and prep information with the patient or representative. This position also serves as a liaison between physician offices and facility departments across multiple service lines.
Responsibilities
- Verify accuracy of EMPI link and identify/report possible compromised records or identity theft.
- Interact with customers to gather and verify registration and scheduling information.
- Accurately input patient demographic, insurance, and scheduling/admission information into databases for billing, reporting, and analysis.
- Explain legal documents in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct financial discussions with patients or representatives regarding insurance benefits, cost estimation, financial obligations, and assistance needs.
- Articulate billing process information and maintain productivity standards.
- Serve as a liaison between physicians, office staff, and ancillary departments to obtain orders and diagnoses.
- Provide examination content, pre-examination instructions, prep details, timetables, and way-finding information.
- Coordinate appointments for patients across multiple system locations.
- Document patient discussions with detailed notes and ensure accurate record-keeping for follow-up.
- Complete all required procedural, operational, and compliance training.
- Greet patients/clients in person and on the phone while upholding Intermountain’s mission, vision, and values.
- Maintain expected productivity, quality, and department standards.
- Handle difficult situations with empathy and positive interpersonal skills to achieve service recovery.
- May lead, mentor, and/or train new employees.
Requirements
- Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing multiple tasks or priorities.
- Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and calendaring programs.
- Typing proficiency.
- Ability to work effectively in time-sensitive situations.
- Independent and critical decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish speaking).
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with CPT/ICD codes.
- Two years of experience in patient access or health insurance industry (commercial insurances, Medicare, Medicaid), health claims billing, or third-party contracts.
Physical Requirements
- Communicate information with others.
- Operate computers and office equipment requiring finger and hand movement.
- See and read computer monitors and documents.
Schedule
16 hours per week minimum (Fridays and one other varying weekday). Additional hours may be available for covering vacations and sick calls.
Pay
Hourly rate: $20.35 - $30.97, dependent upon experience.
