English Teacher - Volunteer Position - Onsite in Philippines • Asia - 2 years, plus 3 months training
About the role
Schools in the Philippines are seeking aspiring and experienced educators to help Filipino students in rural communities develop strong literacy skills. The Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) has undergone major reforms in recent years, including expanding the country’s basic education system from 10 to 13 years by adding kindergarten and grades 11 and 12. According to the Second Congressional Commission on Education, fewer than half of students in grades 1–3 are reading at grade level. As a result, nearly 90% of grade 7 students are not prepared for grade-level work, limiting their academic achievement and future opportunities.
As an English Teacher, you will collaborate with educators to strengthen English and literacy instruction, helping students build the reading, writing, speaking, and critical-thinking skills needed to succeed. Alongside local educators, you will improve students’ ability to access competitive academic and professional opportunities.
