Coastal Management Educator - Volunteer Position - Onsite in Philippines • Asia - 2 years, plus 3 months training

Join an initiative to safeguard the world’s richest ecosystems by supporting communities in the Philippines, one of 17 megadiverse countries renowned for its ecosystems—from forested mountains and tropical mangroves to coral reefs teeming with marine life. Located at the heart of the Coral Triangle, the Philippines faces environmental pressures such as deforestation, pollution, biodiversity loss, and natural disasters. As a Coastal Management Educator, you will collaborate with government units at the provincial, city, and municipal levels to assess resources and develop nature-based solutions. You’ll also work with NGOs, colleges, and universities to expand environmental education and strengthen capacity, contributing to the long-term resilience of this biologically significant region.

Responsibilities

• Review existing laws and guidelines governing coastal and marine resource management for potential improvements.
• Conduct participatory coastal resource assessments and synthesize findings.
• Facilitate environmental education and awareness activities for youth and community groups to promote stewardship.
• Develop or update technical databases.
• Draft project proposals outlining objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes.
• Train youth, women, and fisherfolk on coastal resource assessment, monitoring, proper waste disposal, and education material development.
• Establish or enhance marine-protected areas and management systems.
• Develop business concepts and alternative livelihoods in the community.
• Support disaster risk reduction and management offices in coastal resource planning and activities.
• Work on additional community-driven projects, such as supporting ecotourism start-ups or providing management training for marine-protected areas.

Requirements

• Associate degree in any field and at least two years of full-time, post-high school work experience (from any combination of roles), or a Bachelor's degree in any field.
• No pre-requisite language requirements for this position.
