English Teacher
About the role
The English Teacher at the US Navy Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL, is part of the Future Sailor Preparatory Course (FSPC). This role is dedicated to providing recruits with essential academic skills, particularly in English, which are crucial for the ASVAB, a standardized test used for military enlistment and job placement.
Responsibilities
- Teach the FSPC curriculum, including vocabulary, Greek and Latin roots, reading comprehension, and test-taking skills.
- Maintain an orderly and professional classroom environment.
- Manage discipline within the framework provided by military personnel.
- Use Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Teams for instructional materials and communication.
- Lead two to three-hour instructional sessions and manage thirty-minute study hall/tutor times.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English Language Arts or a related field.
- Classroom experience teaching middle school or higher levels.
- Effective delivery of content with fidelity and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize and manage tasks efficiently.
- Completion of Navy-specific training modules.
- Able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Other Qualifications
- Frequent use of hands and arms.
- Prolonged sitting may be required.
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
- Ability to interpret instructions involving multiple abstract and concrete variables.
