About the Role

The English Learner Program Teacher (ELPT) is a teacher leader nominated by school principals to support the administration of the English Learner (EL) program. ELPTs lead professional development for teachers on English Language Development (ELD) and instruction for English Learners, and engage parents of ELs in their children's education.

District-managed schools with 20 or more ELs receive supplemental positions (0.5-2.0 FTE, depending on the EL student population), with the ELPT staffed in that role. At least 50% of the ELPT position must be dedicated to coordination duties (100% in schools with 250+ ELs). In schools with 1-19 ELs, teachers may accept or reject the ELPT role, compensated with a stipend. If unfilled, the principal assigns it to a qualified administrator or teacher.

ELPTs participate in quarterly OLCE training and provide professional development to preK-12 teachers during the school day.
