Responsibilities

• Plans and delivers lessons to promote students’ English language development
• Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure achievement of EL/MLs across content areas through the Sheltered Instruction and the English Language Development program models
• Administers formative and summative assessments to monitor language progress and ensure student achievement
• Completes documentation required for compliance with state and federal guidelines
• Completes daily logs of student services
• Attends regular Professional Development offerings
• Available for afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences and school events
• Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Preferably holds a valid teaching license for the grades served (K-8 or 6-12) and an English as a Second Language (NS) or a Bilingual endorsement
• Minimally, must be on an approved pathway toward gaining licensure for the grades served (K-8 or 6-12) within three years and then obtain an NS or YA-YT endorsement within 2 years of certification
• Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language acquisition theory, second language learning patterns, and best practices in English language development
• Reflects an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences exhibited by students and their families
• Possesses characteristics necessary for acting as an advocate for multilingual families within the school
• Reads, analyzes, and interprets student academic data
• Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with classroom teachers, administration, and families
