English/Language Arts Teacher - Long-Term Substitute

Full-time, Monday–Friday position from 9/8/2026 through 1/27/2027.

Pay

$240.00 to $293.00 per day.

Qualifications

• Current Minnesota teaching license in English/Language Arts for grades K-12.
• Skilled in culturally responsive teaching.
• Skilled in effective communication and active listening—listening to others and asking appropriate questions.
• Skilled at learning strategies, using multiple approaches when teaching new concepts.
• Skilled in social perceptiveness—being aware of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
• Knowledge of instructional methods and training techniques, including curriculum design principles, learning theory, group and individual teaching techniques, and test design.
• Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including grammar, composition, and vocabulary.
• Knowledge of human behavior and performance, psychological research methods, and the assessment of behavioral and affective disorders.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and collaborate with professional staff to determine and coordinate standardized curriculum and assessment designs (e.g., design and assess student learning K-12, scope and sequence, and departmental coordination).
• Create, formulate, develop, and implement instructional objectives and activities.
• Conduct classroom instruction, individual tutoring, or counseling based on teacher-created lesson plans and student needs:
  • Assess student performance to determine need for re-instruction, alternate methods, and grading.
  • Create a supportive learning environment using appropriate verbal and non-verbal reinforcing techniques.
  • Prioritize tasks to enable efficient use of time.
  • Identify potentially harmful situations and take steps to avoid student exposure.
  • Provide time for students to relearn material as needed.
• Conduct ongoing evaluation of student abilities and health status to adapt responses and assist with educational, career, or personal planning.
• Diagnose, summarize, and interpret student strengths, weaknesses, and problems for reports to parents and other school personnel.
• Respond to student needs:
  • Provide information and guidance regarding educational and career options, resources, and preparation.
  • Address personal or health concerns as presented or refer students to other professionals as appropriate.
  • Serve as a student advocate by presenting concerns to parents, staff, administration, or the public.
  • Act as a liaison between the district and community agencies serving youth.
• Build credibility with staff, students, parents, and the community by:
  • Relating to people from diverse social, economic, racial, religious, and educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrating professional competency through content taught and teaching methods used.
• Assess, plan, and initiate public relations activities to improve community communications and perceptions.
• Assess, plan, and participate in in-service training and/or develop and implement training for other staff.
