English Faculty
About the role
Bryan College seeks to fill a full-time faculty role in its English department. This faculty position will teach four courses (12 credit hours) per semester and will ideally possess expertise in any of the following subject areas: British literature, American literature, World literature, literary theory, literary criticism, and composition. The faculty member in this position will be expected to integrate faith and learning in the classroom and will demonstrate excellence in teaching while supporting the mission to “educate students to become servants of Christ to make a difference in today’s world.” Faculty applicants should possess a strong academic and/or professional background and a commitment to a biblical worldview. Faculty will have the opportunity to shape students’ intellectual and spiritual growth within a vibrant, faith-based academic community.
Education Required
Ph.D. in Literature or comparable terminal degree preferred; outstanding candidates with a Masters degree may be considered.
Experience Required
- Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the academic discipline and in professional practice.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching the courses assigned.
- Ability to create a syllabus and effectively deliver the learning objectives of the course.
- Ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students.
- Ability to learn relevant sections of BrightSpace, Bryan College’s online learning management system.
- Ability to effectively and appropriately integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
- Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
Responsibilities
- Teach a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and provide timely feedback and grades to students.
- Prepare course plans and materials.
- Serve students through advising and other college-related events.
- Keep weekly office hours to support student success and to personalize instruction.
- Other duties as assigned by department Chair or academic Dean.
