English Desk Editor - AFP

About the role

The English Desk Editor at AFP is responsible for editing and illustrating stories filed by reporters in English, as well as translating stories from the French and Spanish services into English. This position involves working demanding eight-hour shifts that often include evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Edit and illustrate stories filed by reporters in English
• Translate stories from the French and Spanish services into English
• Frequently report breaking news
• Pitch original angles
• Participate in a rotation to ensure follow-the-sun coverage during Asia's nighttime hours
• Feed AFP's social media accounts

Requirements

• Proven editing and translation skills
• Experience with multimedia storytelling
• Strong knowledge of English language and culture
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
• Knowledge of French and Spanish languages (ideally)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in news editing or translation
• Fluency in French and/or Spanish (preferred but not required)
